The longest day

Since 1972, 5th June is marked as the World Environment Day. On 5 June 1992, a summit meeting takes place in Rio, which puts the foundationс of the realization of ecological problems provoked by the industry and the modern way of living. In 1991, the World Environment Day becomes a Week of the Environment in France, as the days of the environment continue from 5 to 10 June.

The situation is alarming:

-30% from the living organisms went to extinction during the last three decades, many others are on the brink of extinction.
-The average temperature on Earth is rising with 6,4`С just for a century.
-The Arctic Ocean loses about 8% of its ice cover for the last 10 years.
-23 500 sq. km of Amazonian forest vanish every year.
- For 17 years, the sea level rises with 20 mm per year in some regions of the Globe.

The World makes attempts to react

Put in front of this alarming situation, our civilization must engage with new methods of production, aiming to decrease energy consumption and gas emissions provoking the greenhouse effect. In spite of all ecological initiatives, the right answer is still not in place.

Our way of living and personal behaviour have their influence on the depletion of the natural resources and the increasing or the harmful emissions which disturb the ecological equilibrium on our Planet.

However, there are some solutions already found, and everyone could alleviate the harmful impacts on the environment with some simple steps in their everyday life, without disturbing their comfort of living.

At Home

• Turn off the lights when going out of the room.
• Change the traditional light bulbs with bulbs with low electricity consumption.
• Choose clean and economical car, running on autogas.
• Leave your car in the garage for the short distances.
• Consume local and seasonal products.
• Do not allow leaking of water from the taps and fast draining of the flushing cisterns in the restrooms.
• Water plants in the evening and dig over the earth.
• Close the taps when you put soap on your hands, wash your teeth or shave.
• Insulate the floor, walls and ceiling, choose windows with double glasses.
• Change your old steam-boiler with a new one, more reliable and safe.

At work

• Use the air conditioning in a moderate way.
• Do not print all electronic messages you receive.
• Use recycled paper.
• Use the opposite side of the sheet for draft work.
• Print on both sides of the sheet.
• Use rechargeable products and not ones for single use.
• For one or two floors, use stairs.
• Travel with train and not airplane when possible.
• Prefer public transport to cars.
